For shields, I suggest either a flawless serpentman shield or any other higher tier. That will give you 51 damage and 15 AP that you can repair with star metal. Use flawless versions of the higher tier axes, Khitan battle, blood letter, etc. I've been playing CE for about 2 years, and my conclusion is axe and shield. They are very slow and clunky, also leaving you wide open to attack. If you put an AP kit on one and just use them for light attacks they aren't bad. While you are spinning, you do very little damage and you are wide open to attacks. True, they have high damage, but the lack of AP and the whirling attack are a joke.
